KATHMANDU, Sept 15: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on Wednesday expressed concern with players and sports journalists over Nepal´s participation in the 16th Asian Games (Asiad) to be held in Guangzhou, China.

The president expressed his concern during his meeting with the award winners of the Bajaj Pulsar Sports Award 2066 and officials of Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF), the organizer of the sports award, during a tea reception hosted by him at his residence at Shital Niwas. Nepal´s participation in the Asiad is in limbo due to delay in annoucement of full-fledged budget for this fiscal year. Minister for Finance Surendra Pandey recently said that if the delay continued his ministry would not be able to provide even a single penny for the Asiad, which is scheduled to be held from November 12-27.

President Yadav, expressing his great concern about sports in the present condition, said that he was serious regarding Nepal´s representation in Guangzhou as it was a subject of national pride.

NSJF on Tuesday had awarded players and sports personalities in 10 different categories amid a extravagant function.

On the occasion, President Yadav congratulated the players. "I am touched by the players´ feat of waving the national flag in national and international level. As the head of the state, I would like to congratulate you on behalf of the nation."

President Yadav added that the award carried more significance as it was given by journalists working in the sports sector. He also thanked NSJF for honoring the players.
