KATHMANDU, Nov 25: Patients receiving treatment in the critical care unit (CCU) at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) have been transferred to other hospitals on Wednesday as the hospital grappled with prolonged power outage.
The hospital has been facing prolonged interruptions in the supply of electricity since Tuesday evening due to what it has described as failure in the internal system.

"We have transferred some patients admitted at the CCU to other hospitals for their own safety," Dr Deepak Mahara, TUTH director, said. He informed that the hospital administration applied all safety measures while transferring the patients to other hospital.
The TUTH had called an emergency meeting of all its department heads and technicians from the Nepal Electricity Authority on Wednesday morning. The meeting had decided to halt major operations and transfer CCU patients to other hospitals if the power supply did not resume.
The NEA technicians working since Tuesday evening to fix the problem of power outage had not been able to do so until Wednesday evening. The TUTH has been relying on the nine back-up generators to carrying out the services.
"The generators have been running for the last 24 hours and they might stop any time, so we have transferred some patients to other hospitals," informed Director Mahara.
