Arturo Galvan, 44, of Menifee, was arrested Thursday after an hours-long search sparked when he allegedly tried to break into a Fullerton home, Fullerton police said.
Police said Galvan is believed to have stolen items including women's bras and panties from at least six burglaries in at least four locations starting in October.
Investigators said Galvan is believed to have targeted California State University-Fullerton students he found on social media. They said Galvan obtained GPS locations embedded in photos posted to social media sites.
"He pinpointed their location and mapped it out, and burglarized their residence," Fullerton police Sgt. Kathryn Hamel told the Orange County Register.
Police said some of the victims were home at the time of the burglaries.
Other items stolen during Galvan's panty-raids include jewelry, iPads, TVs and framed photos, police said.
Galvan was booked into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of burglary, receiving stolen property, peeping and prowling, and resisting arrest. He was released on $200,000 bail.
