Police seized 72 detonators, five kg of gelignite, 200 meters of fuse wire and loads of glass fragments from them. They were ferrying the material into Kathmandu Valley ahead of the Maoist mass demonstration, in a bus (Ba. 1 ja 9735) coming from Bensisahar of Lamjung.[break]
Those arrested for carrying the ´dangerous materials´ are Kabin Jimi, Sonam Tamang, Dhan Bahadur Tamang, Singh Bahadur Tamang, Man Bahadur Tamang and Damai Ghising. While Jimi hails from Aankhibhui of Sankhuwasabha district, the others are from Ramechhap.
Police arrested them during a security check at Aanbukhaireni, Tanahu district. Police have intensified security checking on the roads in response to Home Ministry instructions. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ishwori Prasad Chapagain told a press conference on Friday that the arrested could be Maoist cadres.
However, the arrested have stated that they are not Maoists.
"We were taking these materials to Manang for road construction," Sonam, one of the arrested, said.
Similarly, police seized 720 sticks hidden by Maoists at Kantipur Cinema Hall at Sitapaila, Saturday. Some 200 sticks were seized at Binjel Kothe of Sindhupalchwok district from a bus bound for the capital.
