The government had formed a separate probe panel for the incident after the indigenous farming community came out onto the street upon disclosure that the BBA student was killed by her boyfriend. The panel is yet to complete its report.

Coinciding with the public briefing, a first of its kind by Nepal Police in a criminal case, Kumar Gurung, who struck a deal with Subash Uprety to shoot the latter´s girlfriend, was arrested from Bouddha on Friday afternoon.

"The briefing was effective in bringing complete clarity to the masses about the case," said an official. "It quelled several types of queries from the public. It looks like people are now rid of confusion."

Jyapu Samaj also held discussions among the participants of the public briefing on the general security situation in the district.

Well-planned murder

Investigations have provided new facts about how the accused planned the murder.

Subash had taken Roji around Dakshinkali area on the pretext of reviving a tormented relationship but he was actually looking for a chance to finish her off. "The secluded jungle at Nallu was selected in the second phase," officials said.
