KATHMANDU, April 1: Kathmandu Police Range urged people not to spread misleading information about the vandalism, arson, looting, and police action in Tinkune on Friday, March 29. The police took serious note of the misinformation circulating on social media.
Police Range spokesperson Apil Raj Bohara said recent social media posts have created misunderstandings among the public.
He also addressed a viral video claiming that Sabin Maharjan was shot from behind, stating that the police acknowledged the video. "The video presents only one side of the incident, and the full facts are yet to be revealed. We are conducting a thorough investigation," Bohara said.

He criticized the spread of baseless claims, such as police officers stationed on rooftops with guns and a bullet found in the body of the deceased journalist. He warned that such misleading propaganda could create confusion, fear, and misunderstandings in society.
The police reported that various individuals posted and shared false content on social media after the Tinkune incident. "Such activities challenge law and order and disrupt the investigation process," Bohara said.
The police have intensified efforts to monitor the sources and impact of misleading information. Bohara asserted that they are conducting a fact-based investigation to establish the truth.
Additionally, the police urged the public to assist in the investigation. They requested anyone with information, photos, videos, or other evidence related to the Tinkune incident to submit them via the Kathmandu District Police Office's email, Facebook page, or the spokesperson's contact number.
The police urged everyone to stay cautious and emphasized the need for restraint, patience, and responsible behavior to maintain law and order. They warned people not to believe or spread baseless rumors and misinformation.
"Social media content may not always be true. We urge citizens to verify information before believing or sharing it," the police stated.
