KATHMANDU, Nov 18: Nepal's cricket coach Pubudu Dassanayake's farewell party was ruined by Papua New Guinea (PNG) as it beat Nepal by three wickets in the second leg of the ICC World Cricket League Championship played at a neutral venue at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

PNG, which registered win over Nepal in the both legs, chased 225 runs target losing seven wickets with two balls to spare. The result left Nepal pointless after playing four matches in the championship.Canadian national Dassanayake, who resigned from the post of Nepal's head coach last month saying that the matches against PNG would be his last assignment for Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), wanted to make the last match memorable. However, PNG skipper Jack Vare ruined the farewell celebration winning the last-over thriller in style as he completed most needed half century.

This is fourth defeat for Nepal in 50-over matches in the UAE tour under coach Dassanayake. Nepal lost to Pakistan by 121 runs and Oman by three wickets before losing both matches against PNG in the championship. Nepal lost its first leg match by two wickets on Monday.

Jack finished the match in favor of PNG remaining not out on 76 runs facing 90 balls and sharing unbeaten 84 runs stand with John Reva, who contributed 31 runs off 45 balls. Jack smashed three boundaries and Reva hit a four. The pair steadied the match in favor of PNG after the team had lost seven wickets for 141 within 35 overs.

Nepali bowler Sompal Kami opened the bowling brilliantly sending Lega Siaka for a dock in the fifth ball of the first over to give PNG an early blow. However, opener Tony Ura (24 off 26) and Assad Vala (18 off 20) shared 42 runs between them to anchor the PNG innings.

However, Sompal not only broke the stand but claimed both wickets to take control over the match.

Sese Bau (36 off 41) and Charles Amini (16 off 37) shared 32 runs for the fifth wicket, which was crucial for PNG. And the remaining task was completed by skipper Jack.

Sompal Kami bagged three wickets and Basant Regmi took two, while Sagar Pun and Shakti Gauchan shared two wickets between them.

Earlier, winning the toss and opting to bat first, Nepal managed 224/8.

Although, skipper Paras Khadka contributed half century, his decision to bat first did not pay well as openers Anil Mandal and Subash Khakurel were sent for ducks by Norman Vanua in the first over.

However, Sagar Pun, the second highest scorer with 47 runs off 92 balls, shared 66 runs stand for the third wicket with Gyanendra Malla (36 off 52 balls). Gyanendra cracked five boundaries and Sagar hit a four.

Before being sent to the pavilion by Mahuru Dai in the 32.1 over, Sagar also added 51 runs stand with skipper Paras, who top scored with 58 runs facing 81 balls that included five boundaries, to anchor the innings.

Later, the pair of Paras and Sharad Vesawkar (42 off 45) shared 60 runs between them to help Nepal post a fighting total on board. Mehboob Alam remained not out on 15 runs off 7 balls that included a six, the only six for Nepal.

Norman and Assad Vala bagged three wickets each, while Sese Bau claimed two wickets for PNG.
