In a telephone call to his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina on Thursday evening, PM Koirala said such assistance in the hour of tough time is a symbol of close ties between the two countries, according to the PM's personal secretariat.
PM Koirala thanked his Bangladeshi counterpart for her appeal to the international community to help Nepal in the management of post-disaster adversity during the inauguration ceremony of a high-level meeting of South-South and Triangular Cooperation-post 2015.
Nepal received a huge quantity of relief goods including medicines, tents, garments and dry foods from Bangladesh as relief assistance within the 48 hours of the deadly earthquake in the country. A 19-member medics' team was also here for the treatment of the injured.
In her inaugural speech in the conference, the Bangladeshi PM stressed the need of cooperation between north and south to tackle the present burning issues. She termed Nepal's recent major earthquake as a 'wakeup call' to gear up for promoting regional cooperation for humanitarian aid at the time of crisis.
Prime Minister Koirala said although the incidents of natural disaster are beyond human control there was the need of activating the SAARC mechanisms to promote humanitarian aid to tackle such disasters. RSS
