KATHMANDU, April 2: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday on the sideline of the sixth BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok.
The meeting scheduled for 4 PM local time marks their second engagement at a multilateral forum following their interaction at the UN General Assembly in New York last September. The meeting is also expected to pave the way for PM Oli’s official visit to India.
Prime Minister Oli, who left for Bangkok on Tuesday, is leading the Nepali delegation for the summit and his first official visit to Thailand — the first by a Nepali prime minister in 65 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. His visit comes amid rising pro-monarchy and pro-Hindu protests in Nepal.

Earlier on Wednesday, PM Oli held talks with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, signed two government-to-government agreements and witnessed the exchange of six MoUs between the private sectors of Nepal and Thailand in areas such as culture, tourism and agriculture.
Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to engage with Thai business leaders, address a gathering at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and announce Nepal’s $100,000 support to the institution on Thursday.
At the BIMSTEC Summit, PM Oli will join discussions on trade, investment, infrastructure and food security. The summit is set to adopt key agreements including the Bangkok Vision 2030 and a Maritime Transport Cooperation pact.
Prime Minister Oli is accompanied by Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba, Chief Advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Economic Advisor Yuba Raj Khatiwada and other senior government officials. He is scheduled to return home on Saturday.
