KATHMANDU, June 8: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has elected new district leadership in Pyuthan, Kanchanpur, Chitwan and Kailali through its first district conventions held on Sunday.
In Pyuthan, Bikas Pokhrel was elected district president after securing 153 votes out of 204 ballots cast in the convention, where 324 voters were eligible. His nearest rival, Bam Bahadur Sunar, received 44 votes. Pokhrel, who had previously served as the founding district president, has been active in building the party’s organisation since its inception.
Keshav Bahadur Mahatara was elected vice-president, while Yagyabir Pandey won the post of secretary. Omhari Bhattarai was elected joint secretary.
In Kanchanpur, Padam Bahadur Bista was re-elected district president, securing 197 votes in the election held under the party’s first district convention. He defeated his rival Nabin Bahadur Chand, who received 61 votes. Bista had also been serving as district president prior to the election.

Bhagarathi Badal was elected unopposed as vice-president, while Rakesh Bahadur Chand won the post of secretary with 195 votes against 55 secured by Ramdatta Bhatta. Yagyaraj Joshi was also elected unopposed as joint secretary.
In the election for constituency-3 leadership, Ambadatta Joshi secured 126 votes, defeating Karna Bahadur Chand, who received 72 votes.
In Chitwan, the RSP concluded its first district convention by electing a new working committee under engineer Minimadhav Khanal.
Khanal won the district president post with 222 votes, defeating Krishna Prasad Bushal, who received 111 votes, while Prakash Acharya secured 22 votes. The previous district president was Bhusal.
In other key results, Nirmala Giri was elected vice-president with 190 votes, defeating Tikadatta Itani, who received 84 votes. Tejendra Prasad Paudel won the post of secretary with 194 votes against 145 votes obtained by Netra Lamichhane. Kushal Pathak was elected joint secretary with 187 votes, defeating Parbati Pandey, who received 69 votes.
In Kailali, Kabindra Thakulla was elected chairperson of the RSP district committee after securing 335 votes at the party’s first district convention held on Sunday. His closest rival, Mahesh Kumar Chaudhary, received 37 votes, while another contender received 22 votes.
According to the election committee, a total of 335 votes were cast out of 508 eligible voters.
Ramlakhan Chaudhary was elected vice-chairperson with 152 votes, while Madanraj Joshi became secretary and Ganesh Bahadur Shahi was elected joint secretary.
The convention also elected Laxmi Rawal Poudel, Laxmi Bhatta, Junga Bahadur Ale Magar, Deepak BK and Nardeep Bahadur Dhami as members.
Similarly, constituency-level representatives were elected as Tanka Prasad Jaishi (Constituency No. 1), Krishna Bahadur Bista (Constituency No. 2), Basudev Gharedi (Constituency No. 3) and Durga Adhikari (Constituency No. 4).
