KATHMANDU, Sep 25: Prime Minister Sushila Karki said that the government bodies have been working to find out ways about possibilities of enabling voting rights for people risiding in foreign countries.



PM Karki addressing the nation for the first time after being appointed said so from her office at Singha Durbar. Karki was appointed PM on September 12 following the September 8 and 9 with a mandate to hold election within six months.

The Department of Immigration data from 2024 shows that 1.674 million Nepalis went abroad in that year for various reasons (work, education, family, permanent migration, etc.).


EC had earlier told Republica that the government was interested in allowing voting rights to the people working abroad. But, EC has been casting doubts on this issue regarding the safety measures and cost effectiveness.
