“Thirty thousand was spent to level the ground,” said Morang´s HISSAN President Dilli Pokhrel. “The cost for organizing the tournament will increase as certain amount of the fund was spent in the repair works,” he added.
Infuriated sportsmen had planted seeds of maize and lentil in the stadium on Tuesday after ploughing it. The next day, Maoist-affiliated Kochila State Council captured the stadium.
“The incidents made it difficult to conduct the sports week but the crisis was solved as the protestors cooperated later on,” said Pokhrel during a press conference on Friday.
Leveling the ground began from Wednesday according to Pokhrel. Police personnel have been deployed at the stadium to prevent untoward incidents during the games.
Cricket and football matches will be held during the sports week organized by HISSAN for the first time in Morang. Football matches will be conducted at the stadium while cricket will be played at the CAN pitch and Degree College.
Sixteen higher secondary schools are participating in football while 18 are competing for cricket. Altogether 684 students will compete in the event, said the organizers.
Meanwhile, Morang´s Sports Development Committee said that they were compelled to rent the stadium in order to meet its expenses, including electricity bill, telephone charges, house rent and peon´s salary. The committee raised Rs 75,000 in July, Rs 16,000 in August, 20,000 in October and Rs 8,000 in November by renting the stadium.
