South Asian Games (SAG) record holder Deepak Bista received a special award during the program organized by Nepal Sports Journalists Forum, Banke. All Nepal Football Association (ANFA)´s advisor Anil Shah handed over the award to Bista who has won four consecutive gold medals in the SAG. [break]
Bista dedicated the award to his coaches, parents and friends. “I got blessings and honor from sports,” he said and added, “But my success was not mine alone.”
Shah, who is also the CEO of Mega Bank, said, “Sports is the only sector that has given us some hope at a time when the political and financial state of the country are in the doldrums.”
Meanwhile, former badminton and volleyball player Ajit Kumar Sharma received the lifetime achievement award. “This is an unforgettable moment of my life,” said Sharma, who has dedicated his entire life to sports.
Likewise, the award for best coach of the year went to Dal Bahadur Gurung (judo). Cricketers Mahesh Chhetri and Nary Thapa bagged the best player awards in male and female category respectively. Krishna Chaudhary (athletics) received the player of the year award.
Winners of each category received cash prizes of Rs 5,000 and a letter of appreciation.
