Passenger bus backs over to kill boy

ITAHARI, Dec 20: A boy was killed when a passenger bus backed over him at Duhubi of Sunsari on Thursday. Dinesh Thapa, 14 of Hattimudha-4 Morang, was slightly injured when a passenger bus (Na 4 Kha 3789) hit his bicycle at 7:30 in the morning. But the bus heading for Biratnagar from Kathmandu allegedly backed over and killed Thapa.



"The youth had fallen on the road and was only slightly injured but the driver backed over and killed him," said Miliram Chaudhary, a teacher at Karma Bir Secondary School. Thapa was a sixth grader at the school, which has shut down after his death. [break]



According to Suman Timilsina, police inspector at Dubahi, the nature of the accident indicates that the driver backed over and killed Thapa. "The deceased´s head had been completely smashed. Such injuries do not occur in a minor accident," he said.



The police said they would learn more about the incident after post mortem of the dead body. Locals of Duhabi obstructed vehicular movement for nearly three hours following Thapa´s death. Irate locals also chanted slogans against the police.
