The parliament meeting on Sunday was adjourned without entering into its scheduled business as the opposition parties turned down the prime minister´s proposal to resume the House business saying the government was ready to put the decision on hold without implementing it.[break]
Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai at a meeting with Nepali Congress and CPN-UML leaders on the sidelines of the CA´s Constitutional Committee meeting at Singha Durbar earlier in the morning floated the proposal but the NC and UML leaders turned it down.
"There is no meaning of putting the decision on hold because it the Supreme Court has already stayed the decision. We want cancellation of the decision from the cabinet itself," Paudel told reporters after the CC meeting.
NC´s Shobhakar Parajuli and Bhim Rawal of UML fiercely criticized the government for not heeding the opposition parties´ voice in the House. Speaker Subas Nembang had issued a ruling at the previous meeting on Friday seriously drawing the government´s attention toward House obstruction.
PM´s remarks spark row
Lawmakers at parliament came down heavily on the prime minister allegedly for his remarks that Nepal will be "merged into one of the two countries -- India or China -- if it failed to play a role as a dynamic bridge between the two countries."
Taking strong exception to the ´PM´s remarks´, NC Chief Whip Laxman Ghimire said in parliament that the prime minister must give clarification before the House.
UML´s Rawal said the PM was not allowed to give such an irresponsible statement. "Earlier, the prime minister during his India visit said he "gambled" in Delhi [while signing BIPPA]. And now he is talking about ´merging´ the country. He is not allowed to make such irresponsible statements," Rawal said.
