Speaker Subash Nembang-led Special National Committee for Disaster Management, Monitoring and Direction has come up with a decision after various sub-committees under the committee reported that only landlords in quake-ravaged districts were benefiting from relief packages.
Submitting their field visit report at the committee meeting on Wednesday, various five sub-committees claimed that tenants are yet to seek relief packages due to the lack of proper criteria.
The panel has also directed the concerned government authorities to collect all the data on property losses suffered by tenants at quake-ravaged houses and provide them relief support at the earliest. "The government has made no attempt to collect data on losses to the property of tenants during the earthquake and it's affecting the relief distribution process," said Subas Nembang.
During the committee meeting Wednesday, Lawmaker Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal submitting field monitoring report of Tanahun district complained that only landlords were benefiting from relief packages in lack of regulation.
Lawmakers who visited Solukhumbu, Lamjung, Syangja and Parbat have asked the committee to relocate some settlements before monsoon sets in. Lawmakers have also suggested categorizing houses under either fit or unfit for living to settle dispute on relief distribution.
Meanwhile, Nembang directed the parliamentary secretariat to probe why some lawmakers were not present during the field monitoring. Lawmakers Dhamendra Saha Teli and Shiva Kumar Mandal were reportedly absent during Lamgung field visit.
