Addressing an interaction at Reporters Club in the capital Thursday, the Maoist leader deemed close to Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal warned that the Maoists would run a parallel government if the president sacked Bhattarai without a consensus among political parties. [break]
He said the prime minister cannot be removed unless a new political situation emerges following a mass movement.
Gajurel claimed that Bhattarai won"t step down unless there is a package agreement among parties on issues related to peace and new statute.
Addressing the function, NC leader Dr Ram Sharan Mahat said the president should call on parties to form a national consensus government as the present government is a caretaker. “The president should have already called for a national consensus government. I wonder why is he not done so,” he said.
Dr Mahat said the president may have been waiting for July 22 as failure of the government to take the parties into confidence for amending election related laws and constitutional provisions by then would make Constituent Assembly (CA) elections on November 22 impossible.
The EC has asked the government to clear all legal hurdles at least 120 days before the election date.
