75,000 metric tons of paddy was produced in 35,625 hectares of land this year in comparison to 93750 metric ton in 37,500 hectares of land last year, Chief of District Agriculture Office Sukeshwor Jha said."The production has been dropped by 20 percent in comparison to last year," he said.
Jha blamed the poor rainfall among other reasons for the drop in paddy production. He also said that there has been difficulty in collecting reaped grains due to prolonged protests and strikes in the district.
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on November projected that paddy production will decline by 5 percent this year.
Unveiling its micro-economic situation and financial situation report of first quarter, the central bank projected drop in production of staple crops this year indicating that the country will be more food insecure and that the rice imports will increase further.
Paddy production expected to increase by 4.4 percent
