Over Rs 770 million collected in royalty from mountain climbing in spring

More than Rs 770 million in royalty has been collected from this year’s spring season mountain climbing. According to the Mountaineering Branch of the Department of Tourism (DoT), a total of Rs 773.8 million has been collected as royalty as of Sunday.

KATHMANDU, May 12: More than Rs 770 million in royalty has been collected from this year’s spring season mountain climbing. According to the Mountaineering Branch of the Department of Tourism (DoT), a total of Rs 773.8 million has been collected as royalty as of Sunday.


Out of this, Rs 676.9 has been collected solely from Mt Everest. A total of 1,127 climbers—240 women and 887 men—from 119 expedition teams have received permits to climb 26 different mountains, including the world’s highest peak, Mt Everest.

According to Lila Dhar Awasthi, director at the DoT, the highest number of climbers have received permits for Mt Everest, with 456 climbers—84 women and 372 men—from 45 expedition teams. Climbers from 57 different countries have come for the Everest expedition.


For other peaks, 102 climbers from 10 teams have received permits for Ama Dablam, 107 climbers from 9 teams for Lhotse, 79 climbers from 8 teams for Makalu, 75 climbers from 7 teams for Kanchenjunga, 76 climbers from 6 teams for Nuptse, and 66 climbers from 6 teams for Annapurna.


Spring is considered the most favorable season for climbing Mt. Everest and other mountains. During this time, a significant number of climbers from around the world come to Nepal for Everest expeditions. As the issuance of climbing permits is still ongoing, the DoT estimates that the number of climbers may increase further.
