One held with 64 kg of Sunakhari

DARCHULA, March 27: Police arrested Tejraj Shahi from Khalanga, district headquarters of Darchula, for possessing 64 kilos of orchids.



The orchids are locally known as Sunakhari or Sungabha, mostly found in the hills of Nepal. On Saturday night, Shahi, who hails from Laha VDC in Jajarkot, was held with banned orchids, according to DSP Sushil Kumar Rathore.

The police handed over the seized orchids to the District Forest Office (DFO), Darchula. Currently, the police are carrying out investigations into those involved in the illegal trade of Sunakhari.


"Usually, the smugglers are outsiders. We've already identified a group of people involved in smuggling Sunakhari. We'll take action against them soon," DSP Rathore said.
