KATHMANDU, Dec 11: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that the current government holds no legal standing.

Speaking at an editors’ interaction organized by Press Chautari Nepal in Kathmandu on Thursday, Oli remarked that the present government was “pasted together by someone.” “This is a government with neither root nor top,” he said.

Oli added that he was surprised by the conduct of a government “that someone simply brought and stuck in place.” He said, “Just like people paste the image of a serpent on Nag Panchami after applying cow dung, someone has pasted this government here. I am still searching for who pasted the serpent’s photo.”

He described the agreement between the government and Gen Z as a “talentless drama,” adding that even its conclusion took place in an “artless manner.”

Oli argued that a government that has not received anyone’s vote has no authority to decide on matters concerning the system. He said the situation resembled children ruining the lines they learned during rehearsal. “They tore up the agreement right there and walked away,” he added.

Oli reiterated that the House of Representatives, which he said was dissolved through an unauthorized recommendation made without legal authority, must be reinstated. He claimed the Supreme Court would reinstate the House, stating that the constitution leaves no room for an alternative ruling.

Calling the UML and Nepali Congress (NC) historic parties with mass support, Oli said the two parties currently appear outside power only because “a cloud has briefly covered the sun.” He insisted that Nepal must ultimately be governed by the NC and the UML.

He further said that politics is now being driven by people seeking to evade crimes or fulfill personal ambitions. He called the existence of 143 political parties in a country like Nepal “a crude joke,” adding that a belief has emerged that simply opposing the UML is enough to run a party.

Oli also shared that his recent meeting with NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba focused on the country’s political situation. He claimed that the outcome of the discussion would be seen soon. “We held a proper discussion, a meaningful discussion, and its result will appear tomorrow,” he said.
