Odisha's KIIT University forcibly evicts Nepali students from campus

Reports suggest that she had previously complained to the university's International Relations Office about alleged abuse by a male classmate.

KATHMANDU, Feb 17: The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Odisha, India, has instructed Nepali students to leave the campus.


This comes in the backdrop of the death of a Nepali student in the KIIT hostel on Sunday evening. The Registrar's Office of the university has issued a notice asking Nepali students to vacate the campus after students protested alleging the university's negligence in the death of the Nepali student.

“The university has been closed indefinitely for all international students coming from Nepal. They have been instructed to vacate the university campus immediately on February 17 (today),” the notice read.


A Nepali student was found dead under unclear circumstances in a hostel at the university on Sunday night. The deceased has been identified as Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year B.Tech student. The cause of death is yet to be ascertained.


Reports suggest that she had previously complained to the university's International Relations Office about alleged abuse by a male classmate. A social media user also shared an audio clip related to the case. Students protested outside the university after the incident, accusing the administration of negligence.


The police have taken the body to the Capital Hospital for a post-mortem.
