KATHMANDU, Feb 19: Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) has expelled two of its officers following their misconduct in an incident on the campus on the evening of February 16, 2025. In a statement, the university has shown deep regret over the incident, acknowledging that some staff members had misbehaved towards agitating students.
The statement emphasized the university's commitment to its students, highlighting that KIIT has never previously sacrificed the well-being of its students. However, it condemned the ill-advised words of two officers, proclaiming that while the comments were issued in a personal capacity and amid anger, the institution does not support such actions. The officers have since apologized for their actions.

The statement reads, “We are extremely appalled by the untoward incident that took place on our campus on the evening of 16 February 2025. We are also regretful of the way some of us behaved with the agitating students. We love our students and have never done any disservice to them. The comments made by two of our officers are extremely irresponsible. Although the comments are made on their personal capacity on the spur of the moment, we do not support their action. We have removed them from service. They too have apologized for their behavior. We too apologize for all that has happened and hereby tender our love and affection to all the students and people of Nepal. We love them as much as we love the people of India and the people of the world. Additionally, we are again appealing our Nepali students to join the regular academics with immediate effect”
On Sunday evening 20-year-old Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year B.Tech student from Butwal, Nepal, was found dead in her hostel room. Following alleged mishandling of the dead body and the tampering of evidence in the room, Nepali students had staged a demonstration demanding fair investigation into the case.
However, the university resorted to violence to subdue the protest and brutally evicted the students the following morning, leaving the situation tense.
