The Reserve that had turned into a desert due to the devastating Saptakoshi floods that occurred at Kushaha-4, in the northern part of Sunsari some four years back is gradually transforming into a green land, causing an increment in the number of wild buffaloes. [break]
According to Reserve´s Conservation Officer Ashok Ram, the latest study has put the number of wild buffaloes in the reserve at 259. Last year, only 219 wild buffaloes were counted in the reserve.
Besides, the number of migrant birds is found to go up in the reserve area, Conservation Officer Ashok said.A total of 493 species of rare birds listed in World Ramsar List are found in the reserve.
Besides, the reserve is home to various wildlife including crocodiles of Ghadiyal and Magar species, Dolphins, and blue bull, among others.
The reserve that lies at an altitude of 75 to 81 meters above the sea level covers the land in Sunsari, Saptari and Udayapur districts and 175 square kilometer of the reserve area is declared a wetland area.
