Chitrakar began his journalism career about four decades ago as a freelance and later joined the state-owned Nepal Television as a cameraperson after its establishment in January 1985 as the first TV channel of the country. [break]The 71-year-old worked for a number of media houses before recently turning into a freelance once again.
After receiving the award from senior journalist Ram Krishna Regmi, an emotional Chitrakar thanked NSJF for recognizing his long contribution to the sector. The award carries a purse of Rs 10,000.
Speaking on the occasion, Regmi said that NSJF´s initiative was a milestone in the field of journalism for recognizing Chitrakar´s long-term contribution as a representative of the society.
Regmi further said that Nepali sports journalism has already established itself as a beat and now the sports journalists should focus on producing analytical news.
National Sports Council (NSC) Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama said that sports and sports journalism should move ahead hand in hand.
On the occasion, NSJF also handed over letters of appreciation to the representatives of Hansraj and Hulaschand Company, ISME Pvt Ltd, Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd, Dish Media Network, THT Live, Avenues Television, NSC, Hotel Royal Singi, Western Union and New Horizon Carpet for their support for the NSJF Pulsar Sports Award 2068.
NSC Member Secretary Lama, Nepal Tourism Board´s acting chief Subash Niraula and Nepal Sports Federation member Ujjwal Acharya handed over the letters of appreciation.
NSJF was established on September 12, 1995.
