The NSC asked for the clarifications from the cricket governing body after failing to meet the conditions set for getting Asian Cup grant of around Rs 48 million from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), which now runs under the International Cricket Council (ICC). CAN also courted controversy for failing to present the construction cost of the TU Ground, which resulted in the budget being frozen.
Similarly, the NSC also asked clarifications on why the team manager and fitness coach were give short-term contracts, president and general secretary went abroad as team managers despite the ICC's recommendation to send managers having ability to speak English.
NSC to organize national tournament from Nov 1
CAN was also asked to furnish clarifications for failing to grab chances of organizing big tournament in the country by violating conditions set by the ICC for the ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifiers and the ICC World Cricket League Championship; providing only six months' contract to CAN Chief Executive Officer Bhawana Ghimire; failing to submit the contract paper to coach Pubudu Dassanayake as well as for not submitting unsettled account of around Rs 18 million.
Likewise, the sport's governing body of the country also demanded clarifications for losing huge amount from the ICC as CAN has still not received Rs 60 million from the world cricket governing body. The NSC has also asked CAN why it has not settled the account of the contract made with Tribhuvan University for the ground, organized cricket just for the sake of fulfilling formality despite getting Rs 6 million from the NSC and the reason for failing to return Rs 4 million after organizing men's and women's tournaments, failing to build academies and appoint development managers in all nine regions, not reviewing the team's performance of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers and not providing scholarships to U-16 cricket team members as promised.
Similarly, the NSC has also demanded clarifications stating why CAN did not pay attention to government-prioritized plans and did not ask for budget. Another issue raised by the NSC was the reason behind CAN disobeying the directions of the CIAA for recovering Rs 8.4 million from former members of CAN after being fined by the ICC.
Meanwhile, the CIAA has directed the government to amend the decision of appointing Keshab Kumar Bista as the NSC member secretary.
Minister for Youth and Sports Purushottam Paudel, who appointed Bista as member secretary of the NSC, was forced to resign from his post after CIAA blamed him of appointing Bista illegally.
