KATHMANDU, April 26: The images of the 8.9 magnitude earthquake and the subsequent tsunami that hit Japan last month are still vivid in our minds. And when the news of leakage of radiation from nuclear plants grabbed headlines, we knew that Japan’s sufferings weren’t going to end anytime soon.

As the tragedy stricken nation tries to recover, it has been receiving help from various channels. [break]

Closer to home a fund raising concert is being held at Army Officers’ Club, Sundhara on Saturday, April 30.

‘Notes of Love’ will feature Ani Choying Dolma and Kutumba joining hands for fund raising initiative by Japanese Playgroup and Lincoln School Parents’ Association.

The duo will be joined by young musicians from the Lincoln School and Little Angels School.

Other highlights of the concert include Scatmandoos, Akafuji Daiko, a cellist from Korea and violinists from Japanese School choir.

Media Coordinator of the event, Yumi KC shared, “The devastation in Japan is truly shocking. The news left us devastated as many of our friends and families are over there. It’s our way of reaching out to the community, hence the title – ‘Notes of Love’.”

Today, the Women from the Japanese Association are gathering at Japanese School, Kupondole to make thousand origami paper cranes for the concerts.

According to an ancient Japanese legend, anyone who folds a thousand cranes will have their wishes fulfilled.

However, if paper folding is not your forte you can still show your humane gesture by attending the concert.

Each contribution, however small, can make a difference and if you haven’t already pledged support, than the concert is a perfect opportunity.

Many Japanese disaster relief organizations and charities are in dire need of your help and resources.

According to the organizers, the fund raised from the ticket sales will be handed over to “Ashinaga,” a non-profit organization in Japan that supports orphaned children.

Tickets are available at all Bakery Cafe outlets, Ambassador Hotel, Cafe U and Fuji Bakery and are priced at Rs 500 for adults and Rs 300 for children below 12.
