KATHMANDU, Oct 19: Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC), recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has decided to write a letter to the international body, incriminating the National Sports Council (NSC) of hatching controversy against the Olympic Movement in the country.

The NOC issued a press release after its executive committee meeting on Friday and alleged that the NSC is pressuring representatives of some national associations to write to the IOC demanding fresh election of the NOC. [break]

"Some officials of national associations, who are also the NSC staffers, have been directed to collect signatures for launching anti-Olympic movement, while some of the signatories were pressurized," states the press release.

NSC Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama had informed the press that the NSC had sent a letter to the IOC, with signatures of representatives of 22 different national associations, asking it to solve the NOC controversy in Nepal.

NSC had sent the letter on October 10. "Altogether 24 sports associations have signed in the letter stating that they can´t go against the verdict of Supreme Court of Nepal," Lama had said then.

The NOC has also condemned the NSC for misusing the NOC letter pad to write to the IOC.

Meanwhile, the NOC meeting on Friday has decided to take action against its member Rabi Rajkarnikar for launching campaigns against the committee.

The NOC formed a three-member probe committee led by Vice President Ganga Bahadur Thapa to investigate his anti-NOC campaign and suggest the possible action against him. Rajkarnikar had led the process of sending the letter to IOC.

The IOC´s NOC Relations Director Pere Miro has recently replied to Rajkarnikar stating that he would forward the letter to the President and General Secretary of the Nepal Olympic Committee for consideration and appropriate reaction.

Two NOCs, one recognized by Nepal´s Supreme Court and another recognized by the International Olympic Committee, exist in the country. The Supreme Court has recognized the NOC headed by Rukma Sumsher Rana.
