KATHMANDU, July 19: Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar claimed the Caste Discrimination and Untouchability (Crime and Punishment) Act has been implemented of late.

Speaking at an interaction on effective implementation of the act organized by the Dalit Service Association here today, he said the government has taken action against those involved in discriminating people by caste while implementing the act. In a different note, Minister for Home Affairs Gachchhadar said there was no alternative to going for fresh Constituent Assembly (CA) elections to take fresh mandate after the CA failed to promulgate constitution on May 27 and urged for forging political environment to go for the CA elections on November 22.

He said it is a paradox that the Unified CPN (Maoist) and United Democratic Madhesi Front are only responsible for the CA dissolution, claiming the Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML) were more responsible in this regard.

Chairman of the Association, Chakraman Bishwakarma, said the cases of caste discrimination had increased due to lack of effective implementation of the Caste Discrimination and Untouchability (Crime and Punishment) Act.
