DAMAULI (TANAHUN), Feb 27: Authorities have started constructing a track for an alternative road to the Mugling-Narayanghat section. The track, running along Muglin-Gaighat-Dasdhunga-Thimura-Gaindakot, is being opened as an alternative route to the existing highway.

The Department of Roads has allocated 26.932 million for this project in the current fiscal year. Work on opening the track has begun from Puljeep in Aanboo Khaireni Rural Municipality-4, Tanahun.

Following a detailed project report (DPR), the Department of Roads awarded the first-phase contract for the alternative route, which will connect Muglin to Gaighat, Dasdhunga, Thimura, and Devghat's Devpur before reaching Gaindakot in Nawalpur.

Keshav Chandra Neupane, a resident of Devghat, praised the government for addressing the long-standing demand from locals. He said that residents had consistently advocated for an alternative road to the Mugling-Narayanghat section, and their calls have now been answered.

Locals also urged authorities to construct a road linking British Camp in Gaindakot Municipality-3, Devpur in Devghat Rural Municipality-5, and Dasdhunga. They highlighted the need for an alternative route along the Trishuli River from Dasdhunga to Muglin on the Tanahun side.

Although the government had previously allocated funds for feasibility studies for this alternative road under earlier policies and programs, it later canceled the plan. Til Bahadur Thapa, Chairperson of Devghat Rural Municipality, expressed his intention to push for the road's construction, emphasizing its potential to transform Devghat into a hub for economic and religious tourism.

Since Devghat Rural Municipality is not connected to a national highway, he believes that constructing a road from Gaindakot to Devghat and Dasdhunga will significantly increase tourist traffic and boost religious tourism in Devghat.

Residents also stressed the urgent need for an alternative route, as landslides during the monsoon frequently disrupt the Mugling-Narayanghat road. Purna Bahadur Kunwar, Ward Chair of Devghat Rural Municipality-5, emphasized that building another national highway on the Tanahun side would help bring underdeveloped settlements in Devghat and Aanbukhaireni into the mainstream of development.

The proposed alternative road from Gaindakot to Muglin will cover a distance of approximately 38 kilometers.
