NHRC sends monitoring teams to Tarai

KATHMANDU, Jan 21: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has deputed five teams to monitor the state of exercise of human rights in the wake of the ongoing agitation in Tarai-Madhes.

Commission Spokesperson Mohana Onsari issued a statement Thursday asking for support to the NHRC team’s task. The human rights watchdog will make public its say after the assessment and recommend it to the concerned.


As per the NHRC decision taken on January 13, it will mobilize teams comprising deputy director and officials in Bara, Parsa, Rupandehi, Mahottari, Siraha, Saptari, Morang and Sunsari for investigation on the preliminary report recording the death of 49 persons in course of agitation and prepare a report.

The commission has appealed to the victims’ families, relatives, political parties, the Nepal Government and the concerned bodies to help the investigative teams. RSS
