KATHMANDU, Dec 4:  To address the growing problem of traffic congestion in the Kathmandu Valley, traffic police have strictly enforced a new rule for long-distance bus operations.

Under the new arrangement, all long-distance public transport services—both day and night—must depart exclusively from designated bus parks within the Valley.

According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, long-distance buses had recently begun picking up and dropping off passengers along the roadside, similar to local buses, which intensified congestion during peak hours. Therefore, all long-distance buses are now required to depart only from bus parks.

Traffic authorities are also reviewing route permits issued to long-distance vehicles and have requested concerned agencies to support the process.

To promote better road discipline, traffic police have started mandating awareness classes for drivers who violate red lights, change lanes improperly, overspeed, or drive under the influence of alcohol.
