Malla delivered a baby at area health post at Naatharpu VDC of the district. The health post is located about three hours walk from her village Libru. The health workers at the health post, who kept her at the health post for three days hoping her placenta to come out, referred her to the district headquarters after they couldn't stop the bleeding.
Bir Bahadur, Malla's husband, informed that his wife was brought to the district hospital on Thursday evening. The district hospital said that Malla's condition is serious because of the continuous bleeding.
"As there is a shortage of blood, we are unable to transfuse blood to the patients in critical condition, like Malla," Saroja Ghimire, focal person of Safe Motherhood Program at the District Hospital, said. Although Nepal Red Cross Society established a blood collection center at the district hospital two years ago, it has not been able to collect enough blood.
Dr Ratna Bir Sunar, acting chief of the District Health Office, said that Malla has suffered excessive bleeding and needs up to four pints of blood. According to the hospital, Malla needs AB Positive blood.
The doctors attending Malla informed that they have provided medicines to help push her placenta out.
