Addressing a programme organized by the Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (ACORAB) on the occasion of the World Radio Day in the capital city on Saturday, Minister Rai hailed the role of radio during the disaster and assured that the forthcoming media policy would duly recognize it. "The role of community radio during the April 25 earthquake remained very important," he underscored.
Co-Chairman of World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC) Min Bahadur Shahi complained that although Nepal was first in South Asia to set up community radio, there was no media policy friendly to community radio.
Similarly, FNJ Chairman Dr Mahendra Bista pointed out the need of new media policy reasoning the old one does not encompass the burning issues.
10-point declaration issued
Meanwhile, the one-day long radio conference came to an end with the issuance of a 10-point declaration pressing for a separate policy for the community radios.
The declaration has also demanded advertisement of public welfare issue to community radios.
Addressing the conference organized by ACORAB State-Minister for Federal Affaris and Local Development Kunti Kumari Shah pledged her utmost support for the promotion of community radios in the country.
State-Minister Shah commended the role played by the radio during the disasters.
Coordinator of the media policy review draft committee Kashiraj Dahal spoke of the need to incorporate the issues of community radios in the media policy that is in the offing. RSS
