Nepali women's cricket team felicitated

KATHMANDU, Dec 8: Ministry of Youth and Sports has felicitated the Nepali women's cricket team members on Wednesday for for securing second position in the ICC 2016 Women's World Cup Qualifier - Asia held in Hong Kong from October 9 to 15.

KATHMANDU, Dec 8: Ministry of Youth and Sports has felicitated the Nepali women's cricket team members on Wednesday for for securing second position in the ICC 2016 Women's World Cup Qualifier - Asia held in Hong Kong from October 9 to 15.



The ministry handed over Rs 25,000 to the 14-player national team, its coach and physiotherapist.


The felicitated 14 players are Rubina Chhettry (captain), Sita Rana Magar (Vice-captain), Indu Berma, Jyoti Pandey, Kajol Shrestha, Karuna Bhandari, Nery Thapa, Nira Rajopadhaya,  Sarita Magar, Sabnam Rai, Roshani Bohara, Saraswati Chaudhary, Rashmi Sharma and Nirmala Shahi. Similarly, head coach Raju Basnyat and physio Munu Lu also were felicitated alongside the players.

Minister for Youth and Sports, Daljit Sripali and Ministry's Joint Secretary Choodamani Poudel felicitated the players at a special program organized in Singhadurbar. 


Nepali team who recently returned to home after participating in the ACC Women's Asia Cup T20 Cricket got felicitated almost after two months after returning from Hong Kong. Nepal got chance to take part in the Asia cup by the virtue of second position finish in the World Cup Qualifier - Asia.


Hinting to Nepal's disappointing run in the Asia Cup, Minister Sripali said that Nepali team should move on by learning the lesson from the defeats rather than staying depressed. Nepal had lost all five matches of the Asia Cup and finished at the bottom of the standing in the six-team contest.


On the same occasion head coach Raju Basnyat stressed on the need for a long-term plan to develop women's cricket. 


Captain Rubina Chettry said that the Nepali women's team lacks enough exposure to deliver positive results.
