Altogether 295 personalities, including Gurung, will receive the award on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Hong Kong´s handover to China on July 1. [break]
The new executive head of Hong Kong will hand over the awards to the recipients on October 1, China´s national day.
“This is an honor to the entire Nepali community in Hong Kong,” Gurung said. “I am indeed very happy.”
Gurung, an in-flight service manager with Dragon Air of Hong Kong, has been actively engaged in social work for a decade now. The government had recently appointed her an executive member of the area committee in Yauchiming district for 2 years where she is expected to promote social harmony.
Prior to this she was a member of communal harmony and public affair forum under the home ministry. She has had long association with several governmental and non-governmental organizations and she has been actively involved with marginalized communities.
So far five Nepalis have bagged the award, including Aruna and her husband Kul Prasad Gurung who received it last year.
