Govinda Ghimire, president of Nepal Herbs and Herbal Products Association (NHHPA), said they were preparing to design and register a collective trademark for Nepali herbs and herbal products at the Department of Industry (DoI). "The process has already begun. We are hopeful that trademark will be registered within a week," said Ghimire.According to Ghimire, three different associations of entrepreneurs involved in herbal business -- NHHPA, Herbal Entrepreneurs' Association and Jadibuti Association of Nepal -- have joined hands to register the trademark.
"We have already finalized the trademark. The logo includes a phrase -- Nepal Herbs," Ghimire said, adding that they would register the trademark in major international markets once it is registered in Nepal.
"Collective trademark helps to brand Nepali herbs and herbal products in the international market. It will also discourage illegal trade of Nepali herbs and herbal products," he added.
