RAMECHHAP, Aug 8: The Nepali Army has begun repair work on the Bailey bridge over the Sunkoshi River at Khurkot, which connects Ramechhap and Sindhuli districts.
A technical team from the NA’s Bardibas-based unit in Mahottari was mobilized for repairs after several nuts and bolts on the bridge loosened, increasing the risk to travelers. The team started work on Thursday.

The Bailey bridge was installed in October last year after a flood on September 28 swept away a 50-meter span (half the bridge) on the Ramechhap side. It was built through the joint efforts of the Department of Roads, Nepal Electricity Authority and the Nepali Army.
With increasing vehicular traffic, the bridge had started shaking and flexing, while loosened bolts caused the deck plates to become unstable. Although vehicles weighing over 15 tons are not permitted to use the bridge, many overloaded vehicles have been crossing it.
Chief District Officer of Ramechhap Shyam Krishna Thapa said the repair work is expected to be completed within two days.
