KATHMANDU, July 17: Nepal’s U-20 women’s football team thrashed Sri Lanka 7–0 in the SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship on Thursday, significantly boosting its chances of clinching the title.
In the match played at the Bashundhara Sports Complex in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Nepal dominated from the outset, taking a 4–0 lead in the first half and adding three more goals in the second.

Kusum Khatiwada and Samiksha Magar both scored twice for Nepal, while Purnima Rana, Sarita Kumari and Birsana Chaudhary netted one goal each.
This was Nepal’s second 7–0 victory over Sri Lanka in the tournament. With four consecutive defeats, Sri Lanka is now out of the title race, having conceded 26 goals and scored just once across all matches.
Earlier in the tournament, Nepal had lost narrowly to hosts Bangladesh 3–2 but bounced back strongly with a 6–1 win over Bhutan.
Nepal is set to play Bhutan again this Saturday, followed by a crucial match against Bangladesh in the final fixture of the championship.
