KATHMANDU, Sept 20: The Paleti concert, postponed due to the national disaster in August, will now be held this coming weekend.
Paleti, a monthly musical event held at Nepalaya’s ‘R’ Shala on the last Friday of every English month, was originally scheduled to feature lyricist and actor Neer Shah last month. The event was postponed due to the grief caused by the devastating floods in Rasuwa and has now been rescheduled for this weekend.
Around 15 songs written by Shah have been selected for the program and will be performed by Paleti vocalists Meena Pokhrel and Rupak Chaudhary.
Neer Shah's songs to echo at Paleti
Shah is a well-known actor and director who has been active in the Nepali film industry for a long time. Songwriting has also played an important role in his artistic career. His songs have resonated in the Nepali music scene for decades.
Shah has written both non-film and film songs with equal strength. Among the songs written by Shah are ‘Parkhi Basein Aaulaa Bhani,’ ‘Kahile Kahi Ma Haschu,’ ‘Gahiraima Dubdai Naduba,’ ‘Adharko Muskan Ta Kehi Hoina,’ ‘Badal Banai Deu’ and ‘Hiu Bhanda Chiso.’ His popular film songs include ‘Aakhaima Kasaiko Tasbir Basechha,’ ‘Jati Nirmal,’ ‘Chhori Malai Bhagi Bhagi’ and ‘Yo Sanjh Yo Suwas.’
This edition of Paleti will feature Shah's compositions set to music by composers Nati Kaji, Shambhujeet Baskota, C.K. Rasaili and Deep Shrestha.
Speaking during a rehearsal with the musical team preparing for Paleti, Shah said, “I am so closely connected to music and drama that I find places with small musical gatherings or large concerts equally appealing. I came to participate in the rehearsal, and I found all the singers and instrumentalists to be highly talented. This has a glorious history. I am excited to have the opportunity to witness their talent firsthand.”
Recalling his past experiences, Shah said, “I remember doing a live concert with Narayan Gopal dai. It was my responsibility. I consider Paleti, which is of a similar nature, as one of the important chapters of my life.”
Paleti coordinator Aavaas said, “As part of our effort to cover all three forms of musical composition, we have invited lyricist Neer Shah this time. In addition to media and film, he has contributed significantly to songwriting and literature. I am confident that this edition of Paleti, enriched by his creative experience, will be exciting.”
The program will be held on Friday and Saturday, September 25 and 26, at Nepalaya's 'R' Shala in Kalikasthan. Tickets can be purchased online through www.paleti.com.np.
