LALITPUR, Nov 5: The Nepali Congress has urged the government to carry out its functions based on the rule of law, transparency and accountability while upholding media freedom, journalists' safety and the autonomy of democratic institutions.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Nepali Congress central office, Senior Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma said an environment must be created where journalists can disclose the truth without pressure from any political party or power center.

Sharma said the party's special general convention was held with the participation of general convention delegates in accordance with the party statute and that the Election Commission subsequently updated the party's official records.

Noting that the matter had been deliberated by the court and culminated in a verdict, he expressed objection to ongoing rhetoric questioning the Election Commission's decision and the court's order.
Sharma emphasized that the government should prioritize post-disaster reconstruction, rehabilitation and relief for affected citizens.
Clarifying that the Congress is prepared to support the government as a responsible opposition, he said the party advocates allowing the current government to continue working for its full five-year term.
The Nepali Congress has also expressed serious concern over various public statements, audio materials and allegations linked to party President Gagan Kumar Thapa. Making it clear that the party will not ignore the questions raised in this regard, it has demanded an independent, impartial, fact-based and credible investigation.
Urging the government to conduct a fact-finding investigation into the allegations leveled against the party's leadership and the materials currently circulating in the public domain, Sharma said the Nepali Congress is prepared to face any form of inquiry.
The Nepali Congress reiterated its commitment to the independence of the judiciary, strengthening state institutions and the rule of law.
Sharma emphasized that when the government initiates investigations or takes action against any individual or entity, it must clearly present sufficient facts, evidence and a legal basis.
