KATHMANDU, June 17: The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has called for the expulsion of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmakers from the House for wearing blue ribbons during Tuesday’s parliamentary session.
Raising the issue, NC Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire argued that the attire violated parliamentary decorum. “If lawmakers begin appearing in anything—from half-pants to random outfits—should we still consider it within the dignity of Parliament?” he asked, urging Speaker Devraj Ghimire to take disciplinary action, including warning and expulsion.

Citing Rules 30 and 31 of the House regulations, Ghimire said lawmakers can be warned for indecorous behavior and expelled from the chamber if they fail to comply. He emphasized that formal and dignified attire is required as per the Parliament Secretariat’s guidelines.
RSP lawmakers wore blue ribbons during the session to draw attention to the global campaign against human trafficking and modern slavery, saying the gesture symbolized solidarity with that cause.
