According to NC General Secretary Prakash Man Singh, who is also the party´s spokesperson, party leaders at the joint meeting to be held at party headquarters in Sanepa will debate on the issues of federalism and system of governance. [break]
“Party leaders have differing opinions on the issues. The joint meeting will try to hammer out the party´s official position on the issues,” he said.
The joint meeting comes at a time when party President Sushil Koirala has been criticizing senior leaders of the party for making personal remarks on the system of governance and federalism.
Addressing public functions on Friday and Saturday, Koirala has warned the party leaders against making personal remarks, especially with regard to parliamentary system of governance.
The joint meeting is expected to forge a consensus on whether to opt for the presidential system, mixed model or parliamentary system of governance, and the number of provinces to be drawn in Nepal´s federal map.
Singh also said that the meeting will also hold a detailed discussion on various issues related to the peace process.
“Lately, the Maoists have placed new conditions for the integration process to take momentum,” he said. “The Maoists have failed to implement any of the agreements on peace process reached in the past.”
NC leaders close to the party president Koirala have lately been holding internal discussions to amicably settle differences, especially after the dissolution of the party´s sister wings, with the party faction led by Sher Bahadur Deuba.
