KATHMANDU, March 20: The resignation tendered by Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa following the party’s defeat in the recent House of Representatives elections is expected to be rejected by the party’s Central Working Committee (CWC).
During the CWC meeting on Friday, the majority of members voiced opposition to Thapa’s resignation, emphasising that the party still needs his leadership. While no formal decision has yet been announced, Joint General Secretary Bahadur Singh Lama stated that the CWC effectively rejected the resignation.

Vice-President Bishwa Prakash Sharma tabled a seven-point proposal recommending that Thapa remain in office. Thapa had offered his resignation on moral grounds after the NC suffered losses in the March 5 elections. Party insiders suggest that with most CWC members opposing his resignation, Thapa is likely to continue as president.
