In a meeting with the party's CA members representing Madheshis, Tharus, indigenous nationalities and dalits, NC President and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and party's office bearers asked the CA members to withdraw their separate amendment proposals. The top leaders made the request arguing that the constitution was a common document and all the proposals that have been made are based on 'compromise' with other parties.According to CA member Jiwan Pariyar, who was present during the meeting held at Baluwatar, Prime Minister Koirala and other top leaders said that the concerns raised by the dissenting CA members were genuine and they will try their best to incorporate them in the new statute.
"But let's not forget that the constitution bill is a document of compromise," Pariyar quoted Prime Minister Koirala as saying.
Senior leader Deuba had urged the dissident CA members from the Madhesi, indigenous, dalit and Tharu community to withdraw their independent proposals as per the party's decision. General Secretary Krishna Sitaula had assured to make best possible efforts to incorporate their concerns in the new statute.
Dr Shekhar Koirala, Arjun Narsingh KC, Jiwan Pariya, Man Bahadur Bishwakarma and Meen Bishwakarma had filed independent amendment proposal in the constitution bill. They have told the party leadership that they won't withdraw the proposals despite requests.
The dalit, indigenous, Tharu and Madhesi CA members of the NC had told the party leadership to ensure proportionate and inclusive rights of the marginalized groups in the new statute. CA members Padhma Narayan Chaudhary and Surya Man Gurung had asked the party's leadership to resolve the demand of agitating parties through talks arguing that it was in the best interest of both the party and the nation to stall the constitution making process for a few days.
Many CA members had vented their ire over the party's leadership over the failure to incorporate their amendment proposals filed on behalf of the party. The party had earlier asked all CA members to submit their amendment proposals to the party so that the top leaders could talk to other parties to forge consensus.
