According to Deputy Director General Mitra Baral, the conference will bring together government officials, international partners, researchers, private sector stakeholders, and farmers to discuss aligning water, agriculture, and food security policies with Nepal’s irrigation and agriculture strategies and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 1, 2, and 6).
Presentations will be made by national and international experts, including ministers, secretaries, and representatives from the National Planning Commission. The event will feature technical sessions on food security, irrigation practices, and opportunities for synergy between agriculture and irrigation systems.
Nepal’s agriculture sector, which contributes about 25 percent to the GDP and provides significant employment, faces challenges due to climate change, water scarcity, and poor irrigation infrastructure—issues the conference seeks to address through strategic dialogue and collaboration.
