The Prime Minister gave away awards to the feted amidst a ceremony today organized by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation on the occasion of the 199th birth anniversary of Pioneer Poet Bhanu Bhakta Acharya.[break]
Those personalities awarded by the National Talent Award are Prof. Dr Surendra KC ( Culture), Shyam Tamot ( drama and music ), Krishna Prasad Parajuli ( language and art) and Kalu Kumale ( fine arts).
The award carries a purse of Rs. 100,000 each and letters of appreciation.
Similarly, 18 people from different walks of life have been awarded the Regional Talent Award, carrying a purse of Rs. 50,000 and letter of appreciation each.
Those awarded are Prof. Dr Narayan Prasad Sangroula, Nutandhar Sharma, Min Shris Magar and Prof. Dr Dilliraj Sharma (culture).
Similarly, Juddha Bahadur Rai, Kuber Gadtaula, Mahashankar Devkota and Leeladhar Baskota are those personalities awarded by the Regional Talent Award under the drama and music category.
Likewise, Naradmani Hartamchali ´Kalang´, Man Bahadur Tamang Dong, Ganesh Kumar GC, Hemanta Hamal and Puran Khadka have been awarded under the fine arts category.
Dhirendra Premarshi, Rajbhai Jakami, Lalita Doshi, Dr Deepak Gautam and Lok Bahadur Chaudhary ´ Lucky´ are those receiving regional talent awards under the category of language and art.
On the occasion, PM Dr Bhattarai said it is the responsibility of a civilized society and the nation to motivate the people involved in preservation and promotion of art and culture.
The government is committed to guaranteeing social security and reputation of academicians, said the Prime Minister.
Promotion of Nepalese art and culture in the international arena would help the development of tourism, he said, underlining the need of coordinated efforts to transform inseparable relations between tourism and culture as a means of income generation.
Stating that imposition of tax on awards for artistes is not ethical, the PM said that he was committed to removing such a provision.
Also speaking on the occasion, Minister for Culture Posta Bahadur Bogati said art, literature and culture are the mirrors of the nation.
Likewise, awarded Dr KC and Premarshi urged the government not to impose tax on talent awards.
