KATHMANDU, Oct 11: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured newly-elected prime minister KP Sharma Oli of taking initiatives to resolve the ongoing crisis.
Modi expressed his commitment to end the problem during a telephone conversation with Oli immediately after the latter was elected to the post.
"As the newly-elected prime minister informed the Indian counterpart about the crisis, Modi asked him to write to him about the matter and said that he would take initiatives to resolve the problem," CPN-UML lawmaker Rajan Bhattarai, who is close to Oli, told Republica.
Bhattarai informed that Indian Prime Minister Modi also invited Oli for a state visit to India.
"Right now, we cannot say when he will pay a visit. His visit will be scheduled upon mutual understanding between the two governments," added Bhattarai.
The official twitter account of the Office of the Prime Minister of India also tweeted "During their conversation, PM @narendramodi invited Shri KP Oli to visit India."
The press statement issued by Ministry of External Affairs of India stated that Indian Prime Minister Modi said that Oli has been elected in democratic and orderly elections, and he looks forward to working closely with Oli.
"Prime Minister expressed the hope and expectation that Oli will carry all sections of society along, so that there is peace and stability in the country. We are confident that the government of Nepal will address the remaining political issues confronting the country in a spirit of dialogue and reconciliation," the statement read.
Similarly, Chinese ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai visited the CPN-UML party office, Dhumbarahi on Sunday and congratulated Oli on his election as the new prime minister of Nepal.
Surya Thapa, deputy chief of the party's publicity department, said, "Chinese ambassador congratulated Oli comrade during a congratulatory function organized by the party. It was during the function that Indian prime minister had telephoned him and congratulated him."
