The highest rank to be given to Maoist combatants is colonel. Altogether 1,444 former Maoist combatants are currently undergoing training in the Nepal Army. Of them, only 71 are training for officer level posts and the remaining 1,373 for other ranks. The ranks are determined in accordance with the recommendation of the Special Committee, which was represented by leaders from the major political forces. [break]
The Special committee had made the recommendation based on the seniority of the combatants opting for integration. “NA will recommend the names to the government,” reads a statement issued by NA. According to the statement, one combatant will be given the position of colonel and another two combatants the position of lieutenant colonel.
Similarly, 16 other combatants will be given the post of major and 30 others will get the rank of captain. Similarly, 14 combatants will get the rank of subedar, 42 jamadar, 170 sergeant, 93 corporal, 180 lance corporal, and 790 sepoy.
Former PLA division commander Yam Bahadur Adhikari is likely to get the position of colonel as he is the senior-most among combatants undergoing training.
Similarly, former PLA division vice commanders Basudev Ghimire and Padam Bahadur Tamang are likely to get the position of lieutenant colonel. Of the three vice commanders of the division, Birendra BM, who was security chief of UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is likely to get the post of major.
Of the 71 officer level posts, Ram Bahadur Lama and Bimala Panta will get the rank of major.
All officer level former PLA will get the post of lieutenant. They will then participate in a three -month long bridge course.
