DOTI, April 4: A woman in rural Doti has killed her 11-month daughter borne out of an illicit relationship with a neighbor by starving her to death.

Her husband hasn´t returned for a few years and after getting pregnant she had immediately filed a case at the District Court to establish the relation of the child with the neighbor Ganesh. The court ordered DNA samples be sent to Kathmandu tests on March 24, but she had killed the daughter five days earlier.

In the statement give to police, Tulsi, now in the custody of Doti police, has conceded to have killed the baby by not breast-feeding her.

She tried to make it appear a natural death but villagers suspected foul-play and informed the police. Post-mortem report has established that the kid didn´t die a natural death. Tulsi has said that she starved the baby to kill her on the advice of a neighbor.

“I would go out leaving her behind at the house and return only in the night to avoid breastfeeding her,” she said.

“I took the step unable to put up with social vilifications about having an illicit kid. I couldn´t be rational at the time of stress,” she added. Police have also arrested Gouri BK, the neighbor who advised Tulsi to starve the kid to death. BK has blamed Tulsi of falsely implicating her in the case.
